The 'Topper Fund'
"Topper's Opportunity Fund" was established in 2004 because there was an increase in the number of animals whose medical needs far exceeded the funds available to provide treatment. Topper was one of those.
Topper was a one year-old husky mix who had a long history with MHS. Topper was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disorder along with other medical complications that made his life very painful. Despite his pain, Topper was an affectionate and intelligent dog who was always willing to please. MHS decided to take an aggressive role in helping Topper and made a commitment to provide him the treatment he needed. This involved weekly trips to the veterinarian, expensive medication, and even surgery to ease his pain.
Topper was just one of the many medically challenged animals needing lots of love and compassion. There have been many since; and we never know when the next "challenge" will arrive at our doors, which is why your donations are so very important.
